Week 6 Locks & Losses: Early Slate

Share Post

Week 6 is here. This covers the 1:00 PM ET window. The London game (Texans-Jaguars) is not part of it, and the late slate plus prime time (Cardinals-Rams, Chargers-Chiefs, Bills-Raiders, Cowboys-Packers and Commanders-49ers) get their own post. The Lions, Vikings, Dolphins and Bengals are all on bye.

Early Window (1:00 PM ET)

Ravens at Browns: Ravens -3.5 (BAL -220 / CLE +180), O/U 40.5 Our Pick: Ravens 24, Browns 17 (Ravens moneyline) Lamar Jackson is out again with the ankle injury, but Baltimore showed it can win without him. Tyler Huntley threw for 201 yards and two touchdowns and ran for another score in the 30-23 overtime win over Atlanta after a sluggish start, and Zay Flowers is good to go. Cleveland’s offense managed just 12 points against the Jets last week and has had trouble protecting Deshaun Watson, while Derrick Henry and the Ravens’ run game should have room against a weak Browns rush defense. The Browns have been tougher through the air than their record suggests, so we’re staying off the spread and just taking Baltimore to win.

Panthers at Eagles: Panthers -3 (CAR -166 / PHI +140), O/U 39.5 Our Pick: Panthers 27, Eagles 17 (Panthers moneyline) Carolina is coming off its bye and is averaging more than 30 points per game, third in the league in yards. Philadelphia has lost three straight, the latest a last-second loss to Jacksonville in London, and Jalen Hurts is out with a blood clot, which puts Tanner McKee (96 career dropbacks) under center. The Eagles have also had trouble scoring in the second half of games, and they’ll have a hard time keeping up with a Panthers offense this good. We like Carolina to win on the road.

Bears at Falcons: Bears -1.5 (CHI -120 / ATL +100), O/U 52.5 Our Pick: Bears 30, Falcons 27 (Bears moneyline) Caleb Williams is cleared to return from the hamstring tear and will start, and Chicago gets its quarterback back after going 2-1 without him. The Bears are coming off a 31-7 loss to the Packers, and Atlanta is coming off an overtime loss to Baltimore and has lost both of its home games this season. Michael Penix Jr. is cleared to play through the rib injury and Bijan Robinson leads the league in rushing, so this has shootout potential at 52.5, and Atlanta has allowed the sixth-most receiving yards per game to wide receivers. We trust Williams and the better offense to get it done.

Saints at Giants: Giants -1.5 (NYG -115 / NO -105), O/U 45.5 Our Pick: Giants 24, Saints 20 (Giants moneyline) This line has bounced back and forth, with books split on who’s favored, which tells you it’s a coin flip on paper. New Orleans is 1-4 and coming off a 23-13 loss to the Vikings, while the Giants are 3-1-1 and playing at home, still coming off the 27-27 tie with Washington. We lean toward the home team that has been the steadier of the two. Give us the Giants on the moneyline.

Jets at Patriots: Patriots -7.5 (NE -370 / NYJ +290), O/U 44.5 Our Pick: Patriots 27, Jets 14 (Patriots moneyline) New England is coming off its best game of the year, a 45-17 win over the Raiders, and Drake Maye looks like a different quarterback than the one who threw six interceptions through his first three games. The Jets are 2-3 after a 17-12 win over Cleveland and have scored 17 points or fewer in two straight games. A touchdown and a half is a lot to lay and the moneyline price is heavy, so we’re staying off the spread, but we expect the Patriots to win comfortably at home.

Steelers at Buccaneers: Steelers -2.5 (PIT -150 / TB +125), O/U 40.5 Our Pick: Steelers 24, Buccaneers 17 (Steelers moneyline) Pittsburgh is 3-2 and coming off a 34-22 win over Indianapolis, with Aaron Rodgers in fine form and Warren breaking an 80-yard touchdown run. Tampa Bay is 1-4, and its only win came against a Cowboys team that threw two interceptions on Thursday night. The Bucs do have extra rest and Bucky Irving ran for 165 yards in that game, so this won’t be easy, and we’re staying off the spread. But we like the better team on the road, and the Steelers have more ways to win. Give us the Steelers on the moneyline.

Titans at Colts: Colts -6.5 (IND -320 / TEN +260), O/U 43.5 Our Pick: Colts 27, Titans 13 (Colts moneyline) Tennessee is 0-5 and scored just three points in a 26-3 loss to Houston, and Indianapolis is home with Jonathan Taylor in the backfield. The Colts are coming off a 34-22 loss at Pittsburgh and have real issues on defense, so we’re not laying 6.5 points, but the Titans haven’t shown anything to suggest they can get their first win on the road. The moneyline price is steep, but we like Indianapolis to win.

Our Best Bet of the Early Slate: Panthers moneyline over the Eagles. Carolina is off the bye and scoring more than 30 points a game, and Philadelphia is down to its third quarterback and has lost three straight.

That’s the early slate. The late slate and prime time picks are coming in their own post. Couch Side Sports out. Let us know your locks.
